The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) released the notification of RRB JE 2024 through CEN No. 03/2024 on 27th July 2024 inviting interested and eligible candidates to apply for 7951 vacancies for various positions including Junior Engineer (JE), Depot Material Superintendent, Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant, Chemical Supervisor (Research), and Metallurgical Supervisor (Research).
The online application will start from 30th July 2024 and the closing date for online application is 29th August 2024. Check the official RRB website to read the official notification. RRB JE 2024 Recruitment Eligibility Criteria
Nationality/Citizenship
The candidate applying for RRB Junior Engineer (JE) Recruitment 2024 must be either:
- a citizen of India or
- a citizen of Nepal or
- a subject of Bhutan or
- a Tibetian refugee (who came to India before Jan.1962) or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, The United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to settle in India permanently.
Age Limit (as on 01.01.2025)
The upper age limit has been increased by 3 years for CEN 03/2024 as a one-time relief given to the candidates appearing for RRB JE Recruitment 2024 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The age limit is given below:

Application Fees
The category-wise application fees for RRB JE Recruitment 2024 are as follows:
- SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen/Female/Tansgenders/Minorites/EBC→ Rs. 250/- (This amount will be refunded duly deducting bank charges on appearing in 1st stage CBT).
- For All Other Candidates → Rs. 500/- (Rs. 400/- will be refunded duly deducting bank charges on appearing in 1st stage CBT).
MODE OF PAYMENT:
The application fee can only be paid through Online Mode using a debit card/ credit card/ internet banking/ UPI. The applicable service charges will be borne by the candidate.
Refund of Application Fees:
The candidate who will appear in the RRB JE 2024 1st stage CBT examination will only get a refund of the application fee.
To get a refund portion of the application fee the candidate must mention the bank details like Bank Name, A/c holder Name, A/c Number and IFSC code accurately in their application form.

RRB JE 2024 Selection Process
The recruitment of RRB JE 2024 will be through four stages i.e. 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I), 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II), Document verification and Medical Examination. The details of all the stages are given below:
1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I)
The CBT-I examination will be conducted for screening of the candidate’s basic knowledge and skills for relevant positions. The CBT-I exam for RRB JE will consist of 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions from four subjects and each question will carry 1 mark. There are a total of 90 minutes will be allocated for this examination. There will be a negative marking of 1/3rd for each incorrect answer. 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II)
Candidates shortlisted from the CBT-I (after normalization) will appear in CBT-II. Based on merit in CBT-I the total number of candidates shortlisted for CBT-II will be 15 times the community-wise total vacancy of post published by RRB. The RRB JE CBT-II will consist of 150 objective-type multiple-choice questions from Five subjects and each question will carry 1 mark. There are a total of 120 minutes will be allocated for this examination. There will be a negative marking of 1/3rd for each incorrect answer. A virtual calculator will be made available on the computer monitor for CBT-II. The subject-wise details for the RRB JE CBT-II examination format are as follows:

Medium of Examination:
The questions of CBT-I and CBT-II will be available in English, Hindi and 13 other regional languages i.e. Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telegu and Urdu. Candidates have to choose their medium of examination during the filling up of the online application. The CBT questions will be displayed in the language opted and in English.
Document Verification (DV)
Candidates shortlisted for Document Verification will be based on the marks and merit in the 2nd Stage Computer Based Stage (CBT-II). The shortlisted candidates will be equal to the number of vacancies published.
In case of a tie in marks then the older candidate as per the age criteria will be given a higher merit than the younger candidate.
During document verification, all essential documents and verification of antecedents/character of the shortlisted candidate will be concluded by the Railway Administration.
Medical Examination
Selected candidates must qualify in the Medical Fitness Test to get appointed. The medical fitness test will be conducted by the Railway Administration. The medical requirements for different medical standards for different categories are given below:

Step-By-Step Online Application Process
Candidates applying for RRB JE Recruitment 2024 can apply to one Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) only. Multiple applications will lead to the rejection of the candidature. The Step-by-Step online application for RRB JE 2024 is as follows:
- Visit the official website (www.indianrailways.gov.in) and click on “Recruitment”. Select the applying RRB from the list of RRBs.
- Once selected you will be redirected to the concerned RRB Website. Scroll down and click on “CEN 03/2024”. Now click the link beside the subject “To apply for CEN-03/2024” (Click Here to Apply Directly).
- Now navigate to “Apply” → “Create an Account”.
(Note: Candidates who already applied created accounts for CEN 01/2024 (ALP)/ CEN 02/2024 (Technician)/ CEN RPF 01/2024 (Sub-Inspector)/ CEN RPF 02/2024 (Constable) will not have to Register. They can directly login using the same username and password). - Registration: Fill in all the required details like Nationality, Personal Information, Aadhaar Verification (if you don’t have an Aadhaar Card then verify your identity with other relevant documents), Contact Details (verify with Email & Mobile OTP), and password. Once Done click on “Preview and Create An Account” by verifying with a Captcha (Fill all the details carefully once submitted cannot be modified again).
- Login: Now Login using the registered Mobile no./ Email and Password and click on “Online Application“.
- Online Application:
- Select the RRB where you want to apply and click “Next“.
- Now fill in the Personal Details, Community Details (upload caste certificate if applicable), and Postal Address Details and click on “Save“&”Next“.
- Now fill in the Category details (if applicable), PwDB details (if applicable), EBC details (if applicable), Serving Railway Applicant details (if applicable), and Bank Details for Refund of Fee and click on “Save“&”Next“.
- Fill in all the Essential Qualification details by adding one by one once done click on “Next“.
- Now upload the photograph & signatures as per the prescribed format and click on “Save” & “Next“.
- Now Arrange the preferred Eligible Post(s) Zone/PU wise for the selected RRB in order, Select the eligible exam group, Confirm the declaration and mention the place of applying. Then press “Save” & “Preview Application“.
- Once confirming all the details are correct then click on “Submit“.
- Payment: After the online application is filled in correctly proceed for payment of Application Fee through payment gateways (i.e. Pay with SBIePay/Pay with CSC wallet) and pay with Debit card/Credit card/Internet banking/UPI.
- Print: Once successfully completion of the online payment of the application fee take the printout of the Application Form and Payment receipt for future reference.
